Baltimore. It’s just like Liverpool. An old port city on the edge of things. We all arrived here on the 25th, all a little worse for wear. That’s to say not enough sleep, too much alcohol and existing on the fumes of caffeine.
The first week went well and much socializing was to be had with our friendly audience members who kept wanting to take us out for drinks. Who are we to complain. Ann (Theater Project director) and Robert (our in house technician and now new Mary) have been brilliant guides through the city’s bars, cafes, markets and amazing Visionary Art Museum. Basically a whole Museum devoted to outsider art with a real emphasis on the imagination. Absolutely inspiring. Some of those life stories gave teary eyes.
We’re staying in the suite of the Government Inn and are the only guests in the entire huge building. It is a time warp which transports us to the beginning of the 20th century every time we enter.
As we’ve already mentioned Mary light has now left us, stolen back from us by the Unity Theatre and we all miss her. (Give her back, Graeme!)
Now just had a few days off before our last week of performances. Ben spent them in bed, nursing a cold, Mary traveled to DC and Philadelphia and Britt traveled between her bed and the anarchist bookstore/cafe. We had three great reviews and are hoping for good audiences this week…

Another city on the edge
Posted in Travel News on February 6, 2009 by foolsprooftheatreWe love Bethlehem!
Posted in Travel News on January 27, 2009 by foolsprooftheatreFrom NYC to Bethlehem, population 150 000, with two Marys in tow but thankfully no-one pregnant yet. What a lovely week in small town America. So many friendly, interesting and generous people. It would be impossible to thank everyone but extra special love goes to Barbara Pearson (Mary’s mum), Victor and everyone at Touchstone. The studio at Touchstone Theatre where we played is dedicated to Mary’s Dad John so I guess a special thanks to his spirit for keeping an eye on our show. Performing here seems to have brought us full circle, as Mary’s quest for John’s memory was one of our starting points on the theme of absence.
Barbara Pearson has been a one woman army; feeding, publicizing, entertaining and selling us (no, we weren’t that hard up!) all over town.
In and amongst working our way through essential food groups such as fresh bagels, great pizza and the diner experience the show turned into a sell out run. The show itself was very well received by the Bethlehem public and provoked some very interesting Q&A sessions. We are all very happy that Marvin and friends seem to travel well.
We of course remained modest throughout allowing for our fans to chat to us and get their own slice of greatness!
Everything ended in a hugely entertaining party at our new friend Graham’s house which I think the two Marys will remember fondly. Off to Baltimore on board the great gray whale courtesy of rent-a-wreck. We shall see.
Fool’s Proof is roaming the streets of New York
Posted in Travel News on January 18, 2009 by foolsprooftheatreNew York rocks! So much that we actually keep on leaving the apartment despite the horrendous temperatures like for example -10° when passing Brooklyn Bridge yesterday. Mary is here since two weeks catching up with friends from her wild American youth. I got in on Monday and have since then lost three toes and part of my hearing (in return I found the Chrysler Building, spend 5 hrs at the Moma and deeply enjoyed hating Times Square). Ben arrived yesterday and went right on to meet Robert de’Niro for a chat about his future in acting.
Mary Light likes last minute arrivals and the most she will see of Manhattan Skyline will be from the coach on our way out tonight. We’re taking her to Bethlehem!
